It is such a thrill to open the kiln and see the results of colour glaze applications that work through experimentation.
Louise keeps updated with meetings at the Guild in Aurora and often takes part in workshops offered there by renowned artists from Canada and the United States.
SourceworksMelanie Earle has been making art since she was thirteen years old. During her teenage years she also attended summer drawing and painting courses at the Banff School of Fine Arts. Her goals became clear and she decided to pursue a post secondary education in art. She began her studies in Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba and then decided to make a move to Toronto after being accepted to The Ontario College of Art. It was here that she started to mature as an artist, exploring ideas through the visual arts.
After graduating from OCA in 1985, she helped found and became a member of an artists’ collective called “Republic”. She was involved in this group for around four years, showing and organizing shows in Toronto.
Melanie has also worked in the commercial arts as a graphic artist and as a colourist for an animation studio. In 2008 she founded the artists’ circle, GHAC - The Gray Highlands Artists Circle - to promote known and little known artists in our community, and artmaking under different themed shows. For the past fifteen years she has had her own studio-run business, called SourceWorks. The ceramic & cement pieces are original creations involving mold making, slip casting in earthenware and casting in cement. She is involved in the whole process of creating the work - design, graphic design, mold making, slipcasting, and glazing. The inspiration for the work is ‘sourced’ from folkloric imagery and symbolism.
